Little Baby Chicken Head (LBCH) comes from memories of lazy summer afternoons at coffee shops and relearning how to have fun and be creative. I found fiber arts when I turned 40. I was at a farmer’s market in Seattle and I picked up an embroidery kit to make for my partner’s birthday (it was California poppies, his favorite flower) and I was hooked.
I tested AI and made myself redundant and got laid off from my tech job last year. Every fiber of my being objected to going back, so I have dived in head first into crafting instead.
The things that made me a good technical writer also make me good at crafting. I love to learn esoteric things that most people don’t care about. I love details and I don’t mind doing things over and over again until I get it right. Coding was modified off of stitching, so I am just getting back to my roots.
So far, my main love is embroidery, but I made a Bag a Day in May as a sewing challenge and I keep looking for reasons to bust out my sewing machine. I am cultivating a minor obsession with beading and quilting, and I am excited to see where that process takes me. I like the tactile nature of fiber arts and I want to see where our world can go without a total reliance on tech bro culture.
